Updates to the Green Deal framework: MCS installers qualify as Green Deal installers

As part of the Green Deal’s soft launch in October the framework for the scheme was announced. Now updates to the framework have been released which will come into effect before the launch on the 28th January next year.

  • MCS installers don't have to train to be Green Deal installersMCS registered installers won’t have to go through a certification process to be Green Deal installers: This makes life a lot easier for MCS qualified installers, but does mean that they are only qualified to install Green Deal measures that fall under MCS.
  • Gas Safety Register requirement: Green Deal installers now have to be registered with the Gas Safety Register if they are carrying out gas boiler and heating system installations.
  • Green Deal maintenance: Installers carrying out maintenance work on Green Deal measures will now have to be accredited to Government approved standards.

REMINDER: The Cashback portal is now open for applications: The Green Deal Cashback scheme will give cash incentives to households taking up the Green Deal early, with £125m of funding in the pot. Providers can now sign up to offer the scheme as part of the Green Deal by visiting gov.uk/greendealcashback. Any charities wishing to receive any cashback that customers donate can also sign up here
