Orkney Islands

The Orkney Islands still have enough sunshine for well positioned solar energy solutions despite their northerly location. Solutions such as Solar thermal water heating and particularly Solar Electricity (PV) electric panels will save you energy if fitted correctly.

There are high winds speeds all over the islands and they are likely to suit to the use of wind turbines, however you should confirm local conditions and also get consent from your planning office.

The Orkney Islands are well suited to the use of heat pumps as they are surprisingly mild for their northerly position. Both Air Source Heat Pumps and Ground Source Heat Pumps will work well is properly fitted.
