Despite being some of the most northerly parts of the British Isles the Shetland Islands still have enough sunshine for well positioned solar energy solutions such as Solar thermal water heating and particularly Solar Electricity (PV) electric panels.
With high winds speeds all over the islands, they are likely to be well suited to the use of wind turbines, however you should confirm local conditions and ensure you get consent.
Despite their northern location the Shetland Islands are well suited to the use of heat pumps as they are surprisingly mild for their position. Both Air Source Heat Pumps andGround Source Heat Pumps will work well is properly fitted.
